Aren't the wild animals suppose to be IN the cages?

The zoo is always a wonderful place to take pictures. While I snapped away at everything just to get a 'record' of it, I focused on things that we're a little closer (due to the fact that my longest lens is a 50mm,effectivly a 75mm on my D300). So the Rhinos and lions that were a little farther away will not be seen here. The penguins were smelly, cute, and close enough to get a nice shot.

We did however come across a tiger...

...a cute one at that. Maximus the Tiger. Taking a little nap (fractions of a second) in the shade of the trees. We tried to get one of the zoo keepers to get him back in his encloser but they weren't very helpful.

My Easy Place

The amount of photography time I have is somewhat limited if I want to go out on my own, no kids, no dog...just me and my camera. I love taking pictures of my kids but sometimes you need somthing different in front of your lens, somthing else to think about.

This usually involves putting the little ones to bed and running off the the beach a few minutes away to catch the sunset. And now that I've a purchaced a tripod (Manfrotto 055CXPRO3, carbon fiber...love it!, with a Cullman ballhead) it make it easier and I can stay around a bit longer to get that nice light without boosting the ISO.

This is my easy place. When I need it it's close, quiet, and usually give some decent results. I've been there lots of times. Sometime not taking a single frame, but always seeing somthing different everytime. Always trying to make my next trip better. Such as this boat. It wasn't there before, and i hope it's there the next time as well.

And as much as I enjoy this conveinence, I still wish for somthing else, another place, something different, another challenge.

Simple

Yesterday morning I covered the window with a white bedsheet to get rid of the really harsh morning light coming in. It made for some really nice soft light. So I had "control" of the light, but my subjects weren't so easy to control. In fact...total 180 of control. From my two cameras this is my best shot. Shot on my iPhone and edited on my iPhone. And this is being posted completely from my phone.

Not a commercial for the iPhone, but one for simplicity. I didn't have my nikon in my hand at the time and would have missed this shot. Wonderful technology.

Direction and focus

Lately it feels like I've been full of inspiration and ideas of what I want to do and where I want to take my photography. Being my self, I know I get 'obsesive' with some of my interests sometimes, but it really feels different with this one. I don't know what will happen with it or where it will take me but i don't want it to pass me by.

Over the past three years photographing everything that was in front of me, leaning how to take a picture, how to make it better, how to adjust for this and that...I slowed down and though...why? Why take this picture. Well, for one, it makes me happy. I enjoy it. But I want there to be a purpose. A reason, project, a goal for me to take these pictures.

Up until now I have lacked direction and focus. I have an idea of what I like to shoot, and i like to think I know how, but I haven't had the focus to carry it through and get it to the level i'm happy with. Inspiration, no matter how great, without direction and focus just leaves you sitting there on your ass.

I'm probably going to be going in all different directions here, but hopefully there will be some kind of...whatever you call it. Focus.
